I just wanted to mention quickly here about a major beef I had with CSI’s lack of resources dedicated to the Applied Ethics portion of the CPH exam. The Applied Ethics section is worth 25% of the overall exam, and it is given one post test worth of treatment.

To assume that you can fit 5 chapters worth of content into a ten question post test is outrageous. The activities for chapters 11 – 15 were also very small, lacking depth and irrelevance. I was not at all impressed with the lack of quality and time spent on dedicating sufficient online resources to these sections, even to balance them out with the remainder of the chapters.

I still have no reasoning for the absence of any truly relevant content for these chapters, but I do hope in the future CSI puts some more thought into how it develops a full and comprehensive set of tools for its users.– Steve. I don’t claim to be an all-knowing guru, which is why I post all my results on my sites. I wouldn’t consider myself a 90’s student but I wouldn’t consider myself a 70s one either. I am a median kind of guy, and I enjoy a trade-off between time invested for a quality mark and time wasted for a slightly better mark., look it up. I’ll speak to the activities in a separate post. Keep in mind, I only took these tests once, and they are only 10 questions.

Some of the questions you wont believe they actually pass off as legit, but oh well. Module 1 – 100%. Module 2 – 70%.

Module 3- 90%. Module 4 – 70%. Module 5 – 100%. Module 6 – 50%. Module 7 – 80%. Module 8 – 90%.

Module 9 – 90%. Module 10 – 80%.

Module 11 – 60%You’ll notice that there aren’t any post tests for modules 12 – 15. I will discuss this later. Also you will see that I scored some sections much lower. I always appreciate post-tests as a way to evaluate my weak spots. Instead of studying everything, I focused on those chapters I scored the weakest on and worked my way backwards as time allowed. Don’t get discouraged as these practice tests are a small portion of the content and material covered within each chapter.– Steve.

I am not going to digg really deep into this topic. Honestly, I think anything I post here is purely opinion, and nothing should be taken as a sure way of doing things.

The way I approach studying should be completely different then the way someone else studies. Of course there are some basic similarities, but there are no blanket one-fits-all applications for retaining information. There are many resources you have the ability to harness in any of your studies, and one of those resources is the trust highlighter. For me personally, I find I learn better when I can highlight something and return to it later. This functionality exists in online form as well, but there is something about hard-copy that still resonates with me. It makes me more comfortable with the material when I can have a physical copy of it. I read a lot of correspondence online and it doesn’t bother me, but when I am reading from a textbook, I want to be sure to give it a thorough once and even twice through.

When making your decision try to make the best decision for your personal study habits and preferences and not for the extra $90 you will pocket. I made up a set of cue cards on my iphone so I could review them conveniently. I really only spent about 2 – 3 hours on them total, but in retrospect, they really helped. I came out with a great mark (future posts) and that was in part, due to using the cue cards. They help drive home initial concepts so you can build on them later, and for me, increase my retention of more complex topics. I was surprised to see how little definitions there were.

Unlike the CSC, I merely chose the ones I was unfamiliar with out of the glossary, which, if you have more time I would not recommend doing. Either way, the total amount of cue cards I had for the entire course was under 100. To put that in perspective, the CSC-Chapter 7 was 120 and the CFA course is over 2000. So with that being said, you can rest easy that this course has neither a load of definitions nor a load of formulas. It’s almost 96% conceptual and really focuses on the ethical frameworks of chapter 1 and AE: Chapter 5.– Steve.

Ignore the fine details; all the questions referring to national instrument and national policy as well as any that refer to individual provincial exceptions. Focus on Chapters 1 -3, Applied ethics 1 and 5. This was a huge part of the test, and if you could piece these two subsections together, you have covered nearly 50% of the exam. Understand the importance of values; seriously, it seemed like I was using it ever couple questions.

Don’t overweight chapters 8 – 10; these chapters had a huge amount of minute detail in them, including exception lists for almost everything. Don’t freak out and don’t worry about straight memorization, just conceptualization. Don’t worry about time: I left with 2 hours remaining and I did quite well on the time, be confident that the answers aren’t like the CSC, they aren’t there to trick you for the sake of tricking you.

Do all the exercises and post-tests; They were surprisingly helpful, even though I have my own personal issues with them. Open plot file. Make Cue Cards: The wording of the questions assumed you had the definitions memorized, don’t take this for granted.– Steve.

Well its time I wrapped this sucker up, wrote the exam and then passed out for awhile. Honestly, I feel a lot more ready then I did going into either CSC exams. That could be either because the material is easier, or there is less of it.
