Slate Digital has released Trigger, an advanced drum replacer.SLATE DIGITAL’s TRIGGER is the next generation drum replacement VST/RTAS/AU plugin. TRIGGER has a phase accurate multi layered triggering engine. This means that in one instance of the plugin, you can seamlessly trigger multiple samples simultaneously such as a close mic sample, stereo overhead sample, and a stereo room mic samples. Or, mix many direct mic samples to develop your own custom unique sounds. This multi channel triggering functionality allows the user to recreate the sound of natural drums with real multitracked samples. Each sample layer has parameters for customization such as velocity and dynamic control, attack, sustain, release and independent levels.

Yeah there's no going back once you use Mesh Heads. And you can definitely buy individual kit pieces.

I have a TD-8 Brain but I don't use any of the sounds in the Brain and instead fire off Sample Libraries. I know that you are limited to the type of Hi Hat controller depending on the Brain you have. For example, I can (and will) upgrade to use a VH-11 but I can't use the VH-12 or VH-13 (the VH13 is only for the TD-30 and obviously the most responsive - if you're rich enough to afford a TD30KV). The VH-11 has semi functionality with the TD-8 but it's more for the feel of playing that's matters more to me at the minute. Sadly I don't know anything about the 1KV.I have finally got the download code for SSD4 platinum and currently downloading the Sample Library files.

I am having a little bit of trouble locating where the 'Yellow' Licence button is though so have sent Slate an e-mail. Very intrigued to have a play with this! I'll take a look.

If you're downloading the samples and installed the VST (or AU, AAX), then you should be able to set-up your iLok account info (I think they have a link on the download page to add it?), then use iLok manager to authorize it on your iLok. Hopefully you have it up and running already.I'm also looking to trigger my libraries, so the brain is not a big deal for me (as long as it has midi or USB out). Some here have mentioned Kontakt Libraries don't work well with V-Drums (Spitfire for instance), is this true? I plan to mainly use Addictive Drums, Superior, and Slate.

But I have a few in Kontakt (Cinesamples, Spitfire) that sound nice. Not sure how the double trigger snare (or hi-hat with pedal) works with a GM sample library (multiple key assignments?). Edit Sept 10th, 2015 - All Steven Slate Drums are on sale- 4 Platinum and Trigger for $89 each ($74 in cart at Audio Deluxe and JRR Shop- half price from the sale just a few months back!) add-ons are $49. Looking for opinions about the variety of kits (check my new post down the page).

Are they clearing house for an upgrade or replacement? Doesn't effect my purchase but curious if they are working on new stuff.Previous Post (June 17, 2015) - Just noticed Steven Slate drums are now $149 (with any expansion pack thrown in). I was thinking about waiting for SSD 5 but looking at the Sweetwater catalog it doesn't look that different (a couple new kits, more color in the GUI) and if it comes out at double the price then I'll wish I had bought it now. Can anyone highly recommend it for someone who has many drum VIs (especially traditional kits) but is looking for some new urban kits and variety? And does Slate digital usually give a decent discount for upgrades if I wanted it? Or will I buy 4 and then need another $250 to get upgraded to 5?

Yes, use the skype support. I tried emailing them a year ago with some questions about SSD4 (after I had purchased it) and heard nothing but crickets for over a week. I then posted a question, I think on the cockos forums and someone mentioned that the only thing they respond to these days is the Skype support. When I did that I received a reply pretty fast.

Kind of a weird that they seem to abandon the email but whatever works for them I guess. Maybe things have changed since then but that was my experience. It's def weird, not you. Each type of plugin (VST, AU, AAX) is a separate installer that has to be downloaded and run.

Make sure you have the right kind (VST is under 'legacy' and the AU and AAX both say they are 'betas' - crazy). Then download the sample parts (as RAR's) and unwrapping that. Then loading your key code so they can email you the personalized licensing key as a file that needs to be located once SSD4 is opened (I just put it with the samples). Perhaps it installed to the wrong location or you downloaded the wrong plugin type? It's much more manual and confusing than any other plugin I've downloaded. I don't know if any of you are planning to use it in Pro Tools 11 (aax) but I've had the aax version for over a year and it's very buggy. I've eventually moved on from SSD4 now.

Aside from the bugginess, I'm not impressed with the layout and the annoying slow process required to vary the amount of each kit piece in the room or overhead channels. Also I find libraries that operate in the Kontakt or PLAY interface to be less heavy on resources. I don't want this post to read like an ABSOLUTE negative - because it's not a bad sounding library. And perhaps people not on Pro Tools will have better reports on the plugin stability. To give an example of the limitations of the plugin, if I make the instrument track inactive, or if I simply make the plugin inactive, when I reopen it everything is gone and I have to start from scratch.

I finally got it installed, talk about tedious.I think SLATE even has these incorrectly categorized,my 1st attempts were with the legacy installer as I use VSTs as my default in DP,when that didn't work I trashed whatever I could find and tried again using the newer 'AU beta' installer finally got it installed, working etc.DP saw it immediately which makes me think this includes a VST version because if it was AU only I would need to do an extra procedural step to get it examined in DP.Good deal but what a horrible install procedure.

Carrier manual reset limit switch replacement. Just tried the AAX versions in both Aux and instrument tracks, after loading, saving, deactivating, then reactiving, they both open empty. Makes using it in a template useless unless you keep it loaded and active all the time.:/Pretty sad Slate. The fact that SSD4 loads empty rather than a default patch may be part of it, but considering no other plugin I know has this issue, seems like they could fix it and put out an update. I'm sure it's all a part of the mystical SSD5VE Pro works fine if you decide to go that direction someday (you'll need the VST).

Spreads VI's more evenly across multicores than PT11, saving Ram and CPU. There is a thread on the advantages here-whether using it with a slave machine over Ethernet or without a slave, it integrates with PT11 well.
