Moreover, the DLC sees some nations obtain their own unique focus tree, and some amendments have been made to current focus trees, such as the German Reich, where you can now oppose Hitler and re-establish the Kaiserreich (or, German Empire) under Kaiser Wilhelm II.

After many drafts and delays, the Italian focus tree has finally been fully planned out!

The Italian tree only allows for the player to choose capitalism or fascism, but it takes a while for the player to reach that point. The first few years of the Italian tree are devoted to modelling the “Biennio Rosso,” a period of violence where Italy was verging on Communist Revolution, and the Italian government’s response to it. Once the Biennio Rosso modifier is added to Italy, the player has three options: supporting the right against the rise of communism (which later unlocks the fascist path), supporting the center against the rise of communism (which later unlocks the liberal path), and doing nothing (which leads to a civil war against Communist Italy). A few more focuses later, and the tree splits into the two paths available to the player.

Fascist Path (35):

The fascist path of the Italian focus tree is largely inspired by the real-life ambitions of fascist Italy, in creating an empire from Corsica to Cyprus in Europe, and from Tunisia to Kenya in Africa. The player is able to go down a tree of territorial claims to gain the possibility of taking that land, with later claims more difficult to obtain than earlier ones. Other branches within this tree allow Italy to build up a strong army and navy, to gain national bonus modifiers, and to solidify the fascists’ control of the country. Italy is not able to create factions as a fascist power, but must wait for a larger power (Russia, Germany, Britain, America, or perhaps France) to adopt the ideology before forging a strong military alliance.

Liberal Path (28):

A rather vanilla tree as always, the Italian liberal tree focuses on Italy building herself up to prevent being overtaken in warfare, and perhaps to prevent the losses she saw in WWI again altogether. Different branches give Italy the option to join the Allies, develop various parts of the country industrially, build up defensive military structures along the French or Austrian border (at the player’s discretion depending on how the chips fall in Europe), and pick and choose various bonuses to the country based on which flavor of capitalism the player likes best. Again, not too interesting a tree (I’ve been thinking lately of how to make liberal trees more interesting, but have as of yet been incapable of thinking of anything; if you have any ideas, leave a comment below!).

Nevertheless, I’m happier with this tree than with most others I’ve planned out, and making it has given me many new ideas for revisions for the old trees I could do. Expect to see revisions in the future along those lines. Army men rts mods.

Currently, only four planned countries’ trees remain: Communist Italy, America, Britain, and France. Hopefully I’ll have these done in the next two weeks so I can begin implementing this trees once and for all!
